For this series Boxem buys old paintings of landscapes and ‘updates’ them by adding Horizon Pollution; bilboards from the commercial industry.
It is terribly disrespectful to paint over someone’s completed art – some of the paintings are centuries old – but Boxem continues to visualise a paralel; these compagnies are doing this to our actual landscape.
Boxem started the series after reading about another action group demonstrating against windmills. These aren’t pretty at all, but at least have a sustainable purpose. How come there is a social tolerance for McDonalds, IKEA and Hornbach, but not for windmills?
